In 1988, Colin McDonald and his son Geoff, both avid sailors, started a small business selling chandlery equipment to boating enthusiasts.

Quick with a joke and a warm smile, Col loved sailing. He took this passion to a new level when he and Geoff started McDonald Marine, a single shop in City Road, South Melbourne.

In the years that followed, word spread and McDonald Marine quickly expanded, taking on an exciting range of new projects for an exciting array of different industries – circus rigging, lighting for Federation Square in Melbourne, the chimpanzee enclosure at Taronga Zoo and the penguin enclosure at Melbourne Zoo, to name a few.  We’ve worked with film productions and international rock stars.  We’ve built pool fences, office stairwells, gorgeous living walls of greenery and even outdoor furniture.

In 2002, Col retired and Geoff took on the daunting task of running and growing his legacy.  In 2015, we changed the name to McDonald Marine and Industrial to better reflect the broad range of services we offer.  Geoff’s sister Jo has now joined the team and we are super excited about this next phase.

Today, McDonald Marine and Industrial have an extensive workshop, with some of the most skilled and experienced tradespeople in the business.  We thrive on a challenge and solving problems and would love for you to contact us with your design ideas and production requirements – no job is too big or too small!
